SPECIAL GUEST – FRANCISCO OROZCO “YIYI” – singer/percussionist (Spain)
Francisco Orozco “Yiyi” is from Andalusian family, born in Barcelona, and was introduced to Flamenco rhythms at the tender age of four. Yiyi was trained by Flamenco singer and father– “Joselón de Jerez” in his Spanish peña named “Peña Fosforito”. Considered a child prodigy of percussion Yiyi began his professional career at the age of twelve. By 17 years of age and one CD later, he became more involved with singing, particularly for dancers, and left Spain for Germany on a long-term contract with the company “Flamenco Rubio”. Since that time he has performed with “Compañia Flamenca Alhama” throughout Europe and Japan; with internationally known María Benitez “Teatro Flamenco” on Broadway and throughout the U.S.; Domingo Ortega in Venezuela as well “Casa Patas” in Madrid; Jose Greco II in the United States of America and Taiwan; and world-renowned guitarist Serranito . He has also performed with Alejandro Granados, Yolanda Heredia, El Toleo, El Pelao, María Serrano, La Tania, and Antonio Granjero. Critics, worldwide, have toted Yiyi’s performance as “fiery”, “riveting” his percussion techniques executed with “machine-gun speed” that possesses and “casts a spell”.
SPECIAL GUEST – PETER MOLE – guitarist (Vancouver)
From Victoria to Corner Brook and in every major venue in Vancouver, including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Chan Centre and main stage at the Vancouver Folk Festival, Peter Mole has been performing for more than 30 years. He won two grants from the Canada Council for the Arts for extended study in Spain. He composed and performed original music for “Mariposa: The Butterfly’s Evil Spell” at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and for the NFB documentary “Opre Roma” with “Los Canasteros”. In 1994, he introduced flamenco to the legendary Kino Flamenco Cafe in Vancouver where he played weekly shows until the pandemic in March 2020; the Kino has since closed. Peter has just finished his first solo recording “La luna y el viento” and a short film with Calle Verde “Faena”, both funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. He currently performs with Calle Verde, Flamenco Rosario, Mozaico Flamenco and others in the vibrant flamenco community in Vancouver.

CLAIRE MARCHAND – dancer (Winnipeg/Vancouver)
Originally from Manitoba, Claire’s early studies were in Southern Spanish (Andalusian) Regional Dance with Carmen Cano de Infante in Winnipeg. She then studied extensively with Toronto- based Flamenco choreographer Claudia Carolina. She went on to study on a yearly basis in Madrid, Seville and Jerez de la Frontera, Spain with Flamenco dance legends such as Manolete, El Guito, Blanca del Rey, Belen Maya, Concha Vargas, Belen Fernandez, Joaquin Ruiz, the singer Talegon de Cordoba, Ana Maria Lopez, and La Cintia, among others. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada. Claire is a guest dancer at many festivals and as collaborator with companies and independent artists across Canada. She has worked alongside Spanish artists such as Flamenco guitar virtuoso Javier Conde, dancers Domingo Ortega and Maria Bermudez, as well as working with companies in Canada such as La Otra Orilla (Montreal), Flamenco Rosario (Vancouver), Contemporary Dance artists such as TRIPdance and Indian Classical choreographers such as Rubena Sinha and Deepti Gupta. Claire has worked as a soloist, collaborator and producer on many full-length works with Theatre Flamenco Dance Collective with Claudia Carolina. She has worked internationally as well as at Flamenco festivals in Canada.As a teacher, she led a Flamenco studio in Winnipeg from 1999 to 2015, then in Ottawa from 2014-2020. She has taught Flamenco at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Professional Program and Aspirants Programs (RWB company apprentices), as well as workshops across Canada, in Taiwan, China, and to private students in Spain.
JANE OGILVIE – dancer/pianist (Edmonton)
A Calgary native, where she began her flamenco journey, Jane has been a flamenco performer, teacher, and leader in the Edmonton arts community since 2001. As a flamenco artist, she is known for her rhythmic experimentation and precision. For over two decades, she has collaborated with professional flamenco artists from across Canada as both producer and guest artist. She has trained extensively with prominent Spanish artists, regularly returning to Spain to further her artistic development. Her studies focus on: dance – significantly with el Oruco, the Farruco family, Carmen Ledesma, and Manuela Rios; song – with Ismael Fernández, Javier Heredia, Juan del Gastor, and Juan Murube; and also include flamenco history, percussion, and piano – notably with David Pena “Dorantes”. A lifelong pianist, she holds her ARCT in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music and has maintained an active teaching studio since 1989. Jane was the Edmonton Flamenco Festival’s co-founder and Artistic Director, bringing Spanish artists to the Winspear stage, and featuring workshops, flashmobs, and guest Canadian artists for fundraiser performances. Featured international guests included artists such as: the Sonia Olla & Ismael Fernández Flamenco Company, the Jairo Barrull Flamenco Company, and renowned dancers Carmen Ledesma and Manuela Rios. Jane is a 2023 dance recipient of the Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund Award. Supported by the Edmonton Arts Council and the Edmonton Community Foundation, this award is dedicated to the artistic development of Edmonton artists.

ROSANNA TERRACCIANO – dancer (Calgary)
Rosanna experiments within and around the boundaries of flamenco, dance, contemporary performance and short film, driven by an urgency to expose the introverted and vulnerable aspects of flamenco dance. Her solo work has been presented throughout Canada and Europe, with notable performances including the Bienal de Flamenco (Sevilla, 2014), Coetani Experimental Flamenco Festival (Athens, 2015), Flamenco Empirico (Barcelona, 2011, 2012), Mile Zero Dance and National Arts Centre online (Ottawa, 2021). She was Associate Artist at Dancers’ Studio West (Calgary) for the 2020-2022 season. In 2023, after five years of development, she premiered her solo trilogy of cities, PLACE/is a city written on this body?, including choreographies by Barcelona’s Juan Carlos Lérida and Montreal’s Myriam Allard, and presented at the 2023 Vancouver International Flamenco Festival. Significant recent collaborations include choreographing/dancing in a music video for Calgary band Ghostkeeper, and creation and production periods in Hamburg (Germany), at the Dusseldorf Flamenco Festival (tanzhaus nrw) and at Barcelona’s house of dance, Mercat de les Flors. She is the creator of the ongoing online short film project, a quiet flamenco (www.aquietflamenco.com), and is the 2017 recipient of the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize for dance from the Canada Council for the Arts.
